NSCOG...LET THE KINGDOM SHINE IN 2009
Jesus' expressed mission was to bring, introduce, and explain the Kingdom of Heaven. His expressed desire was to see the Kingdom manifested practically in our lives. In response to the disciples' request to be taught how to pray, Jesus taught them that the primary request should be that the Kingdom and the will of the Heavenly King should be done in the earth as it is in Heaven (Matt 6:10)
So in 2009, our primary goal in life is still the proclamation and promotion of the Kingdom of Heaven. This can be best accomplished by us exhibiting truth and witnessing the reality of kingdom principles in our lives.
There is still unacceptable darkness and lives characterized by distress and dismay all around. Yet, we have received the news that over 2000 years ago a Light dawned in the earth bringing hope, joy, and peace. Now it is our responsibility to reflect that hope, joy, and peace in our lives. Not forgetting the Source, we strategically place ourselves in our communities, cities, and country to let our light shine in every corner of darkness.
The illumination of the world with the Light of the Kingdom of heaven is dependent upon our proper alignment with the King who declared He is the "Light of the world". We, as the citizens of the Kingdom of Heaven, are ambassadors to our world reflecting the glorious message of the Eternal King and His Unshakable Kingdom.
God's sovereign rule must first be established in our own lives, then we can allow that Light of the Kingdom to reflect in ever area of society illuminating our homes, families, communities, schools, jobs, churches, cities, state, nation and world. Let us not underestimate the power of one candle held up against the vast darkness of hopelessness, fear and despair that often envelopes our world. Please covenant with me to "let your little light shine in 2009".
Yours in His Kingdom Service,
Elder Derrol Dawkins, M.D., Senior Pastor NSCOG
Derrol Dawkins, M.D. Senior Pastor Northside Church of God THE HISTORICAL VISION OF THE NORTHSIDE CHURCH OF GOD As we celebrate over 105 years of congregational ministry in the metropolitan Birmingham area, we give God praise. We view this as a time of renewal, both individually and corporately, through prayer, fasting and feasting on the anointed preaching of God's Word. Most importantly, we envision this as a unique opportunity to refocus on our God ordained mission and purpose to be a Connected, Committed and Concerned Church. We are CONNECTED...a people who believe that a vital relationship with God through an acceptance of Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord of our lives is essential. We believe what Jesus said in John 15:5. "If a man remains in me and I in him, he will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing." This can be nurtured and developed through a vibrant and anointed corporate worship experience as well as the deepening of private devotional times with God - simply being in His Presence. We are also connected to one another because of our common heritage in Christ. The importance of this horizontal relationship cannot be underestimated. It is with this in mind that we cherish and uphold a rich and loving fellowship of believers. We believe that the larger community will know who Jesus is by the love and unity we show to each other as we have true fellowship. We are COMMITTED...a people who believe that our relationships should be initiatives. We believe that we have received gifts from God and it is our responsibility to identify, appreciate and prepare God's people for works of service. As we present our very selves to God we expect to have every aspect of our lives transformed through obedience to the Word of God made possible through the power of the Holy Spirit. We believe that this should be reflected in the proper use and prioritization of our time, resources, talents to serve others and not simply to satisfy our own interests. We are CONCERNED...a people who believe and take seriously our mandate from Jesus in Matthew 28:19. "Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age." We believe that we must reach out to our families, communities and city with the transforming message of Christ. We will demonstrate this in strategic and practical ways as we touch the lives that God has placed in our realm of influence. As we enter the third millennium and our second century of ministry, we wholeheartedly accept the challenges and opportunities before us. We believe that as we make room for a move of God in our lives and congregation, the future is indeed bright and filled with blessed promises. God is faithful and is able to do exceedingly and abundantly more than we can ask or imagine according to the power that is at work within us.
